Caninsulin is an intermediate-acting insulin product specifically designed for managing diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats. It contains porcine insulin, which is identical in structure to canine insulin, helping to regulate blood glucose levels when the animal's own insulin production is insufficient.
Suitability +
Suitable for: Dogs and Cats with diabetes mellitus. Contraindications: Not for use in food-producing animals. Use with caution in animals taking corticosteroids or progestogens. Not recommended for initial treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Important Information: Hypoglycaemia is a potential risk. Consult your veterinarian for strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond to hypoglycaemia. Monitor your pet closely for changes in onset or duration of activity, especially when starting a new vial. Contact your veterinarian immediately if you have any concerns.
Care and Instructions +
Administration: Administer subcutaneously once or twice daily as prescribed by your veterinarian. Alternate injection sites daily. Use insulin syringes with 40 units/mL markings (U-40). Shake the vial thoroughly until the suspension is uniformly milky. Consult your vet for the correct dosage and to monitor blood glucose curves and home monitoring records. Always consult with your veterinarian for dose adjustments, which should be made gradually based on clinical signs and blood glucose measurements. Storage: Store unopened vials between 2-8°C (refrigerate, do not freeze) and protect from light. After first use, opened vials may be stored below 25°C for 6 weeks. Discard any unused portion after 6 weeks. Store upright.
