Claims
For oral administration to dogs and cats.
Antibiotic liquid for oral administration to dogs and cats. For the treatment of infected wounds, abscesses, dental infections and osteomyelitis caused by aerobic and anaerobic bacteria susceptible to clindamycin.
Aerobic bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp., and Streptococcus spp. Anaerobic bacteria: Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp., Actinomyces spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., Propionibacterium spp., and some Clostridium spp.
Contraindications
Use of this product is contraindicated in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin.
Precautions
Antagonism has been demonstrated between clindamycin and erythromycin. Use with caution in animals receiving neuromuscular blocking agents.
Side Effects
During prolonged therapy of one month or greater, periodic liver and kidney function tests and blood counts should be performed.
Patients with severe renal and/or very severe hepatic disturbances accompanied by severe metabolic aberrations should be dosed with caution and should be monitored by serum examination during high-dose clindamycin therapy.
Safety in gestating bitches, queens or breeding male dogs and cats has not been established.
Clindamycin sometimes causes the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms such as some clostridia and yeasts. Vomiting and diarrhoea have occasionally been observed.
Dosage and Administration
Use the contents within 28 days of first opening the bottle. Discard the unused portion.
For the treatment of dental infections, wounds and abscesses, administer orally 5.5 mg/kg bodyweight every 12 hours for 7-10 days, and up to 28 days.
For the treatment of osteomyelitis, administer orally 11 mg/kg bodyweight every 12 hours for at least 28 days.
