Description:
- Cefovecin sodium as an injection.
- Long half-life in plasma, which means that a single injection delivers up to 14 days antibiotic therapy in a single dose.
Recommendations for use:
Treatment of bacterial infections in dogs and cats.
Dogs
- Skin infections including bacterial folliculitis, wounds and abscesses caused by susceptible strains of
- Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Streptococcus canis (Group G, ß-haemolytic), E. coli and Proteus mirabilis.
- Urinary tract infections (cystitis) associated with susceptible strains of E. coli, P. mirabilis and Staph. intermedius.
- As adjunctive treatment to mechanical or surgical periodontal therapy in the treatment of severe infections of gingival and periodontal tissues associated with Porphyromonas spp. and Prevotella spp.
Cats
- Skin infections including abscesses and wounds caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida, Strep. canis (Group G, ß-haemolytic), and Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.
- Urinary tract infections associated with susceptible strains of E. coli.
Pack sizes:
A lyophile in a vial, supplied with 10 mL sterile water for reconstitution
- Provides an assured course of treatment in a single injection – overcoming the issue of compliance.
- Demonstrated non-inferiority to commonly used oral antibiotics in clinical trials, yet likely to deliver greater efficacy in real-life situations due to guaranteed compliance.
- Demonstrated efficacy and safety in the treatment of skin, soft tissue and urinary tract infections in dogs and cats and periodontal infections in dogs.
Dosage:
- 1 mL/10 kg SC for the indications listed above.
- A second dose, 14 days after the first dose, may be given where warranted in cases of canine skin infections.
Storage:
- Keep refrigerated before and after reconstitution.
- 28-day expiry once reconstituted.
- Colour change over 56 days period post reconstitution is to be expected and does not affect the product’s potency or safety.
