Medication details +

Fortekor contains benazepril hydrochloride, a pro-drug that converts to benazeprilat in the body. Benazeprilat inhibits angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), preventing the formation of angiotensin II. This helps to reduce blood vessel constriction and sodium/water retention by the kidneys. Fortekor provides long-lasting ACE inhibition in dogs and cats, with effects lasting up to 24 hours after a single dose.

Suitability +

Fortekor is indicated for: -Treatment of heart failure due to mitral valve regurgitation and dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs. -Treatment of chronic kidney disease in cats and dogs. Use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating animals is not recommended unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult with your veterinarian. In cats, plasma creatinine concentrations may increase at the start of therapy, related to the therapeutic effect of reducing glomerular capillary blood pressure. This isn't necessarily a reason to stop therapy unless other signs are present; consult your vet.

Care and Instructions +

Administer orally once daily, with or without food, as directed by your veterinarian. Dosage: -Dogs: 0.25 mg/kg bodyweight; may be doubled if needed based on vet's assessment. -Cats: 0.5 mg/kg bodyweight. Always consult with your vet for appropriate dosage and monitoring. Storage: Store below 25°C (air conditioning). Protect from heat and moisture. Return unused half-tablets to the opened blister space, insert back into carton and use within two days.
