Contraindications | Neptra is contraindicated for use in dogs with known hypersensitivity to florfenicol, terbinafine or mometasone furoate. This product is contraindicated for use in pregnant and breeding dogs. The use of Neptra in dogs with perforated tympanic membranes has not been evaluated. This product should NOT be used in dogs with perforated/ruptured tympanic membranes. The integrity of the tympanic membrane should be confirmed before administering the product. This product should not be used in dogs with generalised demodicosis. |
Precautions | DO NOT administer orally. Use of topical corticosteroids has been associated with adrenocortical suppression and iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. The safety of Neptra has not been established in dogs less than 3 months of age. Bacterial and fungal otitis is often secondary to other conditions. Appropriate diagnosis should be used to determine the primary factors involved. Caution should be taken to prevent the product from getting into the eyes of the dog being treated. In case of exposure to the eye, rinse with plenty of water. |
Dosage and administration | SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE For use only by a veterinarian. One dose constitutes the entire treatment protocol for this product. The duration of effect is 30 days. Administer one dose (1 tube containing 1mL) per affected ear. 1. Wherever possible, sample exudate from the affected ear, and examine microscopically in-clinic to assist in confirmation of causative agent. This simple in-clinic step aids in optimal antimicrobial selection. Neptra Otic is not indicated for Pseudomonas infections. Send samples of exudate for culture and sensitivity testing. 2. Thoroughly clean and dry the external ear canal. 3. Otoscopically verify the tympanic membrane is intact prior to administration. 4. Remove single dose tube from packaging. While holding the tube in an upright position, remove the cap.Turn the cap over and push the top of the cap into the tip of the tube. Twist the cap to break the seal, then remove the cap from the tube. Screw the enclosed applicator nozzle onto the tube. 5.Gently insert the tapered tip of the applicator into the affected external ear canal and squeeze the tube to instill the entire contents (1mL). 6. Gently massage the base of the ear to ensure even distribution of the solution throughout the external ear canal. 7. Repeat with other ear if treatment is required. DO NOT clean the ear after dosing as this may affect product effectiveness. Compatibility with other ear medications or cleaners has not |
