COMPOSITION
Altrenogest 50mg/mL
ACTIONS
Altrenogest induces a hormonal state resembling pregnancy by mimicking the action of endogenous progesterone. Treatment with altrenogest blocks follicle development and oestrus in non-pregnant animals by suppressing cyclical release of gonadotrophins. Suppression of the normal sexual cycle results in prevention of the signs of oestrus in mares. Mares return to heat and release natural hormones again once treatment stops. Treatment with altrenogest makes it possible to regulate the breeding of mares.
Pharmacokinetic studies conducted in geldings have shown blood levels of altrenogest are maintained for 6 days following administration of the injection. Studies have been conducted to support suppression of behavioural signs of oestrus in cycling mares for 5 days following administration of Readyserve Altrenogest Injection for Horses.
INDICATIONS
For the suppression of oestrus in normally cycling mares.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
3mL per 500kg bodyweight by intramuscular injection once every 5-7 days as required to suppress signs of oestrus.
Efficacy studies were performed on Thoroughbred horses with an average weight of 500kg using a dose of 3 mL per horse every 7 days.
The dose rate should be extrapolated according to bodyweight if treating lighter or heavier horses (for example, ponies or heavy horses).

PRECAUTIONS:
There is evidence that when progestagens are administered to rats during the embryonic stage of pregnancy at doses higher than the recommended equine dose, foetal abnormalities (specifically masculinization of female genitalia) can result.
Withholding Periods Meat DO NOT USE in horses intended for human consumption.
