Medication details +
Vetoryl Capsules contain Trilostane, a synthetic steroid analogue that helps manage Cushing's syndrome in dogs by inhibiting the production of cortisol in the adrenal gland. This medication helps to reduce the excessive cortisol levels associated with Cushing's, improving your dog's overall well-being. Consult with your vet for appropriate monitoring.
Suitability +
Vetoryl Capsules are specifically for dogs suffering from pituitary-dependent or adrenal-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's syndrome). It is not suitable for animals with primary hepatic disease, renal insufficiency, or for pregnant or lactating bitches. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing anaemia. Potential side effects include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhoea, and anorexia. In rare cases, adrenal necrosis and sudden death have been reported. It's essential to have your dog regularly monitored by a vet while on this medication.
Care and Instructions +
Administer Vetoryl Capsules orally, once daily, with food. The starting dose is 2-6 mg/kg, but always follow your veterinarian's specific instructions. Do not divide or open the capsules. Regular monitoring by your vet is crucial, including biochemistry and ACTH stimulation tests before treatment, and then at 10 days, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and every 3 months thereafter, as well as after each dose adjustment. Store below 25°C (air conditioning) and keep the blister strips in the carton.
